Are you worried about debt?

 There is free and independent advice available to you:

  • The Citizens Advice Northern Debt Advice Line offers free, independent and confidential debt advice by telephone, from Citizens Advice. Call 0300 33 33 445 Mon-Fri 9.00 - 5.00
  • Citizens’ Advice Bureaux offer advice on debt and tax issues
  • Consumer Credit Counselling Service is a registered charity offering free, confidential advice and support to anyone who is worried about debt. Call 0800 138 1111
  • Debt Advice Foundation are a UK charity offering free, impartial advice on dealing with debt.
  • National Debtline is a helpline that provides free confidential and independent advice on how to deal with debt problems. Call 0808 808 4000
  • The UK Insolvency Helpline is a national debt advisory service for debt advice and debt management. Call 0800 074 6918.

What benefits might you be entitled to? 

  • Department for Work and Pensions and Citizens’ Advice Bureaux can give an overview of benefits available
  • Age Concern helps older people work out what benefits they are entitled to
  • The Community Law Centre offers free, confidential and impartial legal advice to Allerdale residents covering welfare benefits and council tax. Call 01228 515 129.
  • Allerdale Disability Association provide information and advice on disability issues. Drop in centre for disabled adults and carers. Benefits advice and a form filling service for all ages. Call 0845 1299954.

Are your savings safe?

The banking crisis has brought the safety of savings into sharp focus. Savings up to £50,000 per person per licensed bank are guaranteed should any UK-regulated bank or building society go bust.

  • Citizens' Advice Bureaux can advise on your fuel costs - heating your home; winter fuel payments; fuel arrears; grants and schemes; energy efficiency and more
  • Allerdale Borough Council supports organisations that offer grants and discounts for loft and cavity wall insulation to private householders. Call 01900 702570
