Allerdale Social Impact Investment Fund Grant Scheme

Funding is provided by Sellafield Ltd to the Council to deliver a range of social outcomes linked to its Socio-Economic Strategy.

The Council prioritised jobs and growth in the Council Plan 2015-19, and supports activity that demonstrates the ability to protect existing jobs or create new ones.

This programme will support the delivery of the Allerdale Business Growth Plan through:

1)  Business Support - supporting local entrepreneurial initiatives and providing funding to enable businesses to grow or start up. This is primarily a grant scheme, but a low cost loan will also be considered if the venture is more risky. Loan repayments and interest will be recycled back into the SIIF. Pre-start up businesses will be signposted to the Business Growth Hub for suitable advice and guidance via qualified business advisers. We do not intend the SIIF to be 100% funding for businesses – the applicant must have sufficient faith in their venture to fund some themselves, either their own cash or via a loan or grant.

2) Quality of Place - to boost the vitality and liveability of Allerdale by ensuring that there is a diverse 'destination' offer. Funding will be available for community events via charities, not for profit organisations, local community groups etc. as distinct from the commercial business support.  As such, there is the consideration for up to 100% funding in exceptional circumstances and in-kind match.

The SIIF is designed to be a one-off pump-priming resource to enable activity to commence through making up the shortfall, as such it is lender of last resort. Please read the Guidance notes to decide if your activity is eligible for grant funding

If a grant is awarded the recipient agrees to be monitored on achievement of outputs and expenditure in accordance with the terms within the offer letter.

Recipients' details will be published in accordance with the requirement from Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) for all local councils and fire and rescue authorities in England to publish spending information over £500 online.
