Health and Safety
The health and safety section carry out routine
inspections of commercial premises for which they are the enforcing
authority to assess compliance with health and safety legislation.
We investigate complaints and accidents with regard to these
premises and provide advice for new and existing businesses.
Enforcing health and safety law
On finding a breach of health and safety law,
the Inspector will decide what action to take. The action will
depend on the nature of the breach, and will be based on the
principles set out in Allerdale Borough Councils’
Enforcement Policy. The inspector should
provide employees or their representatives with information about
any action taken, or which is necessary for the purpose of keeping
them informed about matters affecting their health, safety and
welfare.
The section is also involved in licensing for
animal welfare purposes, registration of skin piercing activities,
Sunday Trading, and are consulted on various other
licensing and registration applications.
