Derwent Valley

Aerial view of Derwent Park

The Derwent Valley area of Workington could play an important role in the provision and development of sport, recreation, leisure and culture. It is located in close proximity to Workington Town Centre and provides a valuable link between the retail core of the town to nearby housing areas, the Port of Workington, the River Derwent and sport, recreation and leisure facilities in Workington.

From the end of January 2007 there will be an initial public consultation on the Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the area. The purpose of the SPD is to set out a clear framework of objectives and master-plan options for the Lower Derwent Valley area in terms of economic, cultural and environmental regeneration as well as ensuring that any proposals/objectives are effectively consulted upon and considered within the context of the wider area and that the views of stake holders and other interested parties are taken into consideration. Information on a previous leisure consultation for the area, designed to explore what will be included within the community facilities can be found on the Derwent Valley Leisure consultation page.
