Facelift Schemes
The Facelift Schemes offered grant assistance to the owners
and tenants of commercial and community properties within
eligible areas of Allerdale to upgrade the external appearance of
their buildings. Funding was available for the renovation or
replacement of existing shop fronts and the external facades of
upper floors.
Works eligible under the schemes:
- Replacement windows and doors
- Replacement rainwater goods
- Repainting and re-rendering
- New / improved signage
- Installation of security equipment
- General repairs to shop fronts
- Joinery
Financial assistance under the Facelift Schemes was not
available for internal or major structural works.
Workington Facelift Scheme 2005-2007
Building on the success of previous initiatives, the Workington
Facelift Scheme 2005-2007 offered a further chance for the
enhancement of commercial and community properties within the
centre of Workington. The scheme improved the appearance of
the town centre and made the area a more attractive place to
work, visit and shop. Facelift 2005-2007 was specifically
geared to improving the trading position of streets alongside the
Washington Squareredevelopment zone.
Workington Facelift 2005-2007 offered grants of 50%
for eligible works up to a maximum grant of £2,000.
**The Workington Facelift Scheme is
now complete and no further applications are being accepted. The
scheme was very successful and assisted 43 businesses during
2005-2007**
Rural Facelift Schemes
The Facelift Schemes also operated within the rural areas of
Allerdale. Thanks to funding contributions from Allerdale
Borough Council, the North West Regional Development Agency, and
the work of Allerdale's three Market
Town Partnerships, all commercial properties within the
Cockermouth, Keswick and North Allerdale Market Towns
Initiative (MTI) areas were eligible for financial
assistance to help improve the frontages of their premises.
The schemes operated in the same way as the Workington Facelift
Scheme (details given above), with money available for works such
as new windows and doors, new signage and repainting. Grants were
awarded at a rate of 50% with a maximum grant of £2000.
** Rural facelift schemes ceased in
April 2008 and are no longer accepting applications **
