Crime prevention

Crime preventionWest Cumbria is a low crime area with a high detection rate on crime. We have many examples of best practice – leading to improved outcomes for local people. Criminals from outside the area who try to commit crime here tend to regret it.

Priorities for West Cumbria

  • Violent crime including domestic abuse
  • Criminal damage and anti social behaviour
  • Misuse of drugs and alcohol
  • Casualty reduction
  • Public perception of crime and disorder and their engagement in the solutions
  • Ensuring areas experiencing higher crime and disorder reduce to what is more normal for West Cumbria as a whole (Priority Localities)

In addition we have also made burglary a priority, not because there are major burglary problems, but to ensure preventative measures are in place as more people are vulnerable during recession.
