Achieve Equality in Cumbria Project
In Cumbria there are six district councils,
which provide a number of services including, benefits, housing,
waste collection, planning, street cleaning, parks
maintenance and licensing.
Since 2008 the county council and all six district councils
have been working together on a project called Achieving Equality
in Cumbria. The project aims to make sure that:
- All local authorities have a clear understanding of the
equality priorities in the local area
- Councillors and senior managers promote equality and good
community relations
- There is a consistent approach to consultation and engagement
with under-represented groups
- That Equality Impact Assessments are shared across authorities
and consistent adjustments provided
- That staff have the skills to address diversity, and local
authorities have the right policies in place to meet their legal
requirements as employers.
Councils working together
The District and county councils in Cumbria
are working together to eliminate discrimination and promote
equality so all people in Cumbria have fair access to services.
Working together reduces and shares the cost of providing services
and ensures that people who are protected or vulnerable have equal
access to services.
