Lillyhall Local Development Order

Main purpose of the policy, service or function

The Lillyhall Local Development Order will amend the Permitted Development Rights in relation to the construction, extension and change of use of industrial, warehouse and office buildings.

The provisions of the Order would allow the construction of new industrial, warehouse and office buildings (and extensions to existing buildings) of up to 1,500 square metres gross internal floor space without the need to obtain planning permission. It would allow the unfettered change of use between B1 (Business), B2 (General Industrial) and B8 (Storage and Distribution) of up to 1,500 square metres gross internal floor space.

List the main activities or objectives of the policy, service or function
  • Remove the time/financial costs associated with obtaining planning permission for forms of development that would be unlikely to raise any strong planning objections in any case
  • Provide a strong marketing tool to incentivise investors considering developing/locating to West Cumbria/Allerdale
  • Support the objectives of the West Cumbria Economic Blueprint and the Innovation Zone concept in facilitating job creation and economic growth in the sub-region
