Equality Objectives 2012-16

The Council's Equality Objectives are below:

  • Foster good relations by putting in place arrangements to actively facilitate and support festivals and events across West Cumbria to promote understanding amongst diverse communities and encouraging community cohesion.
  • Reduce the effect of rural isolation by increasing the number of payment points available for Council services and increasing the number of services available online.
  • Work with partners to develop an anti-poverty strategy that advances equality of opportunity between those who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
  • Implement the Council Equality Scheme which ensures that all decisions consider the needs of protected groups in line with the Equality Act.

The purpose of the Equality Objectives

The purpose of setting specific, measurable equality objectives is to help the Council to better perform against the requirements set out by the Public Sector Equality Duty. Equality objectives help focus attention on the priority equality issues within the organisation in order to deliver improvements in policy making, service delivery and employment, including resource allocation.

Development of Allerdale's Equality Objectives

The Council's equality objectives have been developed in line with the Council Plan.  The plan has been developed to address key priorities for Allerdale, it actively focusses on addressing areas of inequality and reflects the challenges facing the area. It has been developed using information from a variety of sources including extensive consultation, existing statistical information, feedback from local communities and other related background data. The Council's equality objectives will be reviewed and updated during 2015.
