Cockermouth
Locality Plan - 2011/2012
Locality Plans are mainly about influencing
and improving the delivery of public services, recognising that
“one size does not fit all” in terms of public services. In
other words each locality in the Borough needs to set a vision,
establish their particular community needs and priorities and
delivering change.
A Locality Plan was commissioned by Allerdale
Borough Council with the support of Cockermouth Town and the
surrounding parishes in June 2010 and the work was carried out by
an organisation called Social Regeneration Consultants and
finalised in December 2010. The Cockermouth Plan is now
available on our website.
Development of the Plan comes at a time when
Allerdale Borough Council is changing the way it delivers many of
its local services. The Plan builds on the extensive work
already undertaken after the floods of 2009 but focuses on the way
in which local services should be provided in the future. It
is not just Allerdale Borough Council but working together in
partnership with other organisations whether in the public sector,
the private sector, the voluntary sector and others that is crucial
to this development.
Building on the recent work to develop the Locality Plan for
Cockermouth and area we are starting to implement an action plan
starting with a "pilot project" to bring together a wide range of
partners to work together with a range of existing
engagement/community groups. This "pilot project" aims
to secure a number of early "quick wins" to build momentum and to
help to clarify how issues are identified and solved. This
may be by, for example, the community, by officers or by
members. The "pilot project" will aim to better develop
locally responsive services through a tasking group dedicated to
improved integration of service delivery teams.
This implementation will be taking shape over the coming weeks
and as it emerges regular updates will be given on this web
page.
