Getting involved in decisions
Did you know you had the opportunity to be involved in the
decisions the Council makes?
Here are some of the ways you can take part in the Council’s
decision-making processes:
Contact your councillor
Talk to your local
councillor about any local issue.
Attend meetings
You can
attend meetings of the full Council and Executive and other
committee meetings, except when confidential information is
discussed.
Speak at meetings
As long as you give two days’ notice in
writing, you can ask a question at any of our meetings on any issue
affecting your community. If you object to a particular planning
application, for example, you could speak at the committee meeting
when the application is discussed.
Present a petition
You can present a petition at a meeting of the Council.
View information
You have the right to look at
agendas and minutes of Council meetings.
Ask Scrutiny
You can ask our
Scrutiny committees to look into any matter affecting the
area.
Participate in consultations
Take the opportunity to comment, through one of
our consultations,
on issues that affect you and your community.
