04/03/2010 - Allerdale’s council tax is lowest in county
Allerdale Borough Council set its budget for 2010-11 last night (Wednesday, 3 March 2009) at its meeting of full Council.
A 1.9 per cent increase in Allerdale Borough Council’s portion of council tax was agreed, meaning that its portion is still the lowest district council tax in the county by far.
For a band A property this means an increase in Allerdale Borough Council’s portion of the council tax of £1.79 for the year, for a band B property it means an increase of £2.09 for the year and for a band D property it means an increase of £2.69 for the year, equivalent to 5p per week.
In 2010-11 the district council portion of the council tax for Band D properties for the district councils in Cumbria is:
Allerdale Borough Council – £144.17
Barrow Borough Council – £201.87
Carlisle City Council – £193.43
Copeland Borough Council – £180.27
Eden District Council – £165.89
South Lakeland District Council – £175.63
Councillor David Wilson, Deputy Leader of Allerdale Borough Council and Executive member with responsibility for Finance, said: “We are proud to keep costs as low as possible in these difficult economic times – the effects of which the Council is itself experiencing – while still maintaining value for money in the services that we offer our residents.”
