500 washed away wheelie bins being replaced in Allerdale

22 December 2015

Those who have lost their wheelie bins to the flood waters are being asked to use black bin bags and purple recycling sacks for their waste in Allerdale until further notice.

The Council has received nearly 500 requests for new bins and deliveries are already underway to homes across the borough. However, it will take time to get to every household so refuse collection teams will pick up the black bin bags instead for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, homes who still have wet carpets and furnishings which need removing need to contact the Council to arrange doorstep collections. Residents need to give their name, address and details of the items to be collected.

Those affected can email the Council’s Customer Services officers direct on customer.service@allerdale.gov.uk or call 01900 702800 if they need assistance so that crews can be directed to the areas most in need.

The Council has cancelled the final garden waste collections of this year to free up vehicles for the clean up campaign. Normal refuse collections will go ahead as far as possible. People are asked to put their bins, black bags and purple recycling sacks out as usual if it is safe to do so and if their properties are definitely accessible by road.
