Last chance to save money on energy bills with the Big Allerdale Switch

Residents across Allerdale have just one week left to register their interest in a scheme that could see them save money on their household energy bills.

The Big Allerdale Switch run by Allerdale Borough Council is part of the Big Community Switch, which allows people to group together to purchase their gas and electricity and save money. Since this particular scheme launched on the 10th of December, there have been over 20,000 people sign up with around 700 specifically from the Allerdale area. Residents currently have until midnight on Monday 17th February to register.

With a scheme like this, the key is strength in numbers as the more people who sign up, the bigger the savings are likely to be. Everyone with a domestic energy supply can join including those who have prepayment meters, even with debt up to £500. It is also open to anyone throughout the country, not just to people living in Allerdale so people are being urged to spread the word to their family and friends.

The Big Allerdale Switch is completely free to join, really simple to do, and, at no point in the process are residents under any obligation to switch energy providers if they then change their minds. Everyone who registers will also be entered into a free prize draw to win an Apple iPad Mini.

The Big Community Switch is run by i-Choosr, an independent company, which has experience in collective switching schemes. I-Choosr sets up a reverse auction and invites energy suppliers to offer their cheapest dual fuel and electricity only deals.

To sign up to the scheme, visit www.allerdale.gov.uk/warmhomes, call 01900 702702, or visit Allerdale House or any of the Council’s district offices. A copy of an energy bill should be to hand as information will be required from it.

The next auction will be held on Tuesday 18th February and residents will then be informed of how much they can save should they decide to switch.
