Graham aims to highlight tourism and business opportunities in Allerdale

Monday 30 October 2017

Allerdale Borough Council has appointed a Destination Manager to lead on the implementation of the Council’s tourism strategy, while also supporting economic growth in the area and promoting Allerdale as a great place to live and work.

Graham Kennedy joins the Council having previously worked in marketing at Oldham College, University of Cumbria, Cumbria Tourism and Jennings. Graham recently relocated back to Cumbria, where he has spent most of his life. He said: “There’s plenty of scope to the job with a real focus on showing what Allerdale has to offer. While we will be working to develop the ‘Destination Allerdale’ brand to visitors and residents, we will also be building partnerships with local businesses and organisations to support business growth and give Allerdale its own identity as a place to work and invest.”

The Destination Manager is a new position that was introduced by Allerdale Borough Council to focus on bringing people to the area, whether it’s to visit or to stay for the long-term. This includes driving forward an online presence, developing Allerdale as a destination and working closely with local businesses to help them grow.

Graham, who joined the Council in October, added: “I am very much looking forward to getting to grips with this new role. It’s an exciting opportunity to grow the visitor market in the borough, while also developing attractive, vibrant town centres to make Allerdale a great place to live, work and visit. There’s a very positive future in Allerdale with lots to grow.”
