Allerdale event highlights future housing needs in the local area

Monday 25 September 2017

Allerdale Borough Council held a housing summit, titled ‘Housing for the Future’, to highlight the work that is being done across Allerdale to meet the housing needs of local people.

The event, which took place on Friday 22 September at the Hunday Manor Hotel in Workington, saw presentations from a range of speakers from a number of different organisations to discuss housing initiatives, including grants, the Allerdale Local Plan, fuel poverty and much more.

Councillor Carni McCarron-Holmes, Executive Member with responsibility for housing, said: “The event was a fantastic forum to gather together key people from different housing organisations to discuss what the future will look like in terms of housing. The needs and demand for housing are ever changing, so it was a great way to share the work that is being done to meet them. I was pleased to see so many people come along and I thank everyone for their valuable contributions.”

The Council is currently running a number of housing schemes and grants to help local people, including Disabled Facilities Grants, Safe and Warm Grants and the Big Allerdale Switch. For more information, visit
