Armed Forces Covenant

Allerdale are leading the way by responding to a recent government initiative to renew a commitment to work with the Armed Forces community by signing an Armed Forces Covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant, also known as the Community Covenant is a voluntary statement of mutual support between a civilian community and its local Armed Forces Community. The purpose of the Covenant is to encourage support for the Armed Forces Community working and residing in Allerdale and to recognise and remember the sacrifices made by members, particularly those who have given the most. This includes in-Service and ex-Service personnel their families and widow(er)s in Allerdale.

For the Armed Forces community, the Covenant encourages the integration of Service life into civilian life and encourages members of the Armed Forces to help their local community.

Councillor Alan Smith, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to show our commitment to members of the Armed Forces, to strengthen understanding and support for forces personnel and their families in Allerdale.”

The Covenant will be signed on Wednesday 12 June 2013 at Allerdale House in Workington by representatives of Allerdale Borough Council, the Armed Forces Community and the partner organisations. This is an opportunity to bring knowledge, experience and expertise together to help and advise members of the Armed Forces and to build upon existing good work.
