Council collections not impacted by road closures

17 February 2014

Allerdale Borough Council is reassuring residents affected by current road closures in the area that their refuse collections will take place as usual.

The B5289, which is the main road into Borrowdale from Keswick, is expected to be closed for up to six weeks whilst Cumbria County Council carries out emergency repair work on a retaining wall.

The road closure will impact on residents in and around the villages of Grange, Rosthwaite and Seatoller but Council refuse crews will be using their extensive knowledge and experience of the area to ensure that both domestic and commercial collections are not affected and residents are not inconvenienced any further.

Whilst the B5289 is closed, crews will instead be using the road through Portinscale, over Catbells and over Grange Bridge to access properties in Seatoller and beyond.

The only small change will be that collections from Longthwaite Youth Hostel will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays instead of Mondays and Thursdays until the road reopens.

Collections will also be unaffected by the C2016 road closure near Ribton Hall at Camerton, whilst repair work is being carried out after severe flooding. Smaller refuse vehicles will be in operation and will make detours from the normal route to ensure that collections continue to take place as normal.

For more information, visit where you can double check bin collection dates, report any missed collections, and check for any issues such as severe weather that could affect collections.
