Christmas Arrangements
Allerdale Borough Council's closure and bin
collection arrangements for the Christmas and New Year period are
as follows:
Office closure dates:
Allerdale House, Customer Services Centre and
the Telephony Contact Centre, Workington - Closed from 12 noon, 23
December 2011 (last payments taken at 11.45am), re-opens 3 January,
2012 (8.45am to 5pm).
Council Customer Service Centres at Wigton,
Keswick, Cockermouth and Maryport - Closed from 12 noon, 23
December 2011 (last payments taken at 11.45am), re-opens 3 January
2012 (9am to 5pm).
Tourist Information Centre, The Wave Centre,
Maryport – closed 24, 25 and 26 December 2011, and 1 and 2 January.
Open all other days 10am to 4pm.
Tourist Information Centre, Solway Coast
Discovery Centre, Silloth – closed from 12 noon, 23 December 2011,
re-opens 12 January 2012 (10am to 4pm).
Museums:
Helena Thompson Museum, Workington – closed
from 4.30pm, 22 December 2011, re-opens 3 January 2012 (1.30pm to
4.30pm).
Maryport Maritime Museum – closed from 24
December 2011, re-opens 6 January 2012.
Keswick Museum – closed (winter season).
The Wave Centre, Maryport – closes at 8pm on
22 December. Closed 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 December. Open 28 and 29
December. Closed 30 and 31 December and 1 January. Reopens 10am 2
January 2012.
Leisure centres:
Workington Leisure Centre – closed from 8pm on
Friday 23 December. Closed 24, 25, 26 and 27 December. Open from
10am to 4pm, 28, 29 and 30 December. Closed 31 December, 1 and 2
January. Reopens on 3 January 2012.
Cockermouth Leisure Centre – closed from 8pm
on Friday 23 December. Closed 24, 25, 26 and 27 December. Open from
10am to 4pm, 28, 29 and 30 December. Closed 31 December, 1 and 2
January. Reopens on 3 January 2012.
Keswick Leisure Pool – closed from 5pm on
Thursday 22 December. Closed 23, 24, 25, 26 December. Open 7am to
9pm, 27, 28, 29 and 30 of December. Closed 31 December and 1
January. Reopens 2 January 2012.
Domestic refuse collections:
Weather permitting, refuse, paper and purple
bag recycling will be collected one day later than normal in the
weeks commencing 26 December 2011 and 2 January 2012.
There will be no garden waste collections in
the weeks commencing 12, 19 and 26 December and weeks commencing 2,
9, 16 and 23 January.
Please try to put waste out on the correct
day. Check your recycling calendar if you are in any doubt. For

collection dates, report a missed collection and check for any
weather disruption. Alternatively, call 01900 702800 prior to the
offices closing at 12 noon on 23 December.

making payments as well as reporting problems, such as fly tipping
and noise pollution, and finding useful information.

Car parks:
In addition to the free parking days already
provided this year, Allerdale Borough Council has made free parking
available on the following Council-owned car parks for the
following towns and days (subject to the notice of conditions
displayed in the car parks. A maximum time limit applies for car
parks marked*, see ticket machine plate for details. A time disc
must be clearly displayed and set to indicate time of arrival):
• Cockermouth (Fairfield*, Bitterbeck,
Riverside, Sullart Street and Wakefield Road) – 11, 18 and 24
December 2011
• Keswick (Bell Close*, Central, Lakeside and
Otley Road) – 17 and 24 December 2011
• Maryport (Mill Street) – 10, 17, 23 and 24
December 2011
• Wigton (Water Street and Council Offices) –
10, 17, 23 and 24 December 2011
• Workington (Udale Street *, Ladies Walk*,
Brow Top, Central Station and Elizabeth Street) – 10, 17 and 24
December 2011.
