Allerdale Borough Council bin collections and opening arrangements over the festive period

Allerdale Borough Council’s bin collection arrangements over Christmas and New Year are as follows:

During the week commencing Monday 23rd December, refuse, paper and purple bag collections will take place as normal on Monday 23rd and on Tuesday 24th December (Christmas Eve). All other collections due this week will be two days later than normal. For example, collections due on Friday 27th December will be taken instead on Sunday 29th December.

For week commencing Monday 30th December, collections will be picked up as normal on Monday and on Tuesday 31st December (New Year’s Eve); then for the rest of the week will be one day later than normal. For example, collections due on New Year’s Day will take place on Thursday 2nd January 2014.

The last garden waste collections of 2013 are taking place this week – week commencing 9th December and will resume again from the beginning of February 2014.

All disposal sites will be open until 4pm as normal over the festive period with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and Sunday 5th January 2014.

Office opening dates/times:

All Council offices (including Allerdale House in Workington and all Customer Service Centres in Cockermouth, Keswick, Maryport and Wigton) and telephone lines will be closed from 12 noon on Tuesday 24th December 2013 until 9am* on Thursday 2nd January 2014. (*Allerdale House opens at 8.45am).

The emergency out-of-hours number while the offices are closed over the festive period is 01900 871080.

Tourist Information Centres:

The Wave, Maryport – closes at 5pm on 24th December and reopens at 9am on 27th December. From Friday 27th December until Sunday 5th January 2014, opening hours will be 9am-8pm with the exception of 31st December when it will close at 5pm and will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Local Links, Solway Coast Discovery Centre, Silloth TIC – closes at 1pm on Monday 23rd December and reopens at 9am on Friday 3rd January 2014.

Museums:

Helena Thompson Museum, Workington will close at 4pm on Sunday 22nd December and reopen at 1.30pm on Sunday 5th January 2014.

Maryport Maritime Museum will close at 4pm on Sunday 15th December and reopen at 10.30am on Friday 31st January 2014.

Keswick Museum is currently closed for rebuilding works.

The Wave Centre, Maryport will close at 5pm on 24th December and reopens at 9am on 27th December for Wizard of Oz theatre (no Clip n’ Climb on 27th). From Friday 27th December until Sunday 5th January, the Wave will be open from 9am-8pm with the exception of 31st December when it will close at 5pm and will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Leisure Centres:

Workington Leisure Centre will be closed on 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st December 2013 and 1st January 2014. Reduced opening hours of 10am-4pm will be in place on 23rd, 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th December. Normal opening hours resume on Thursday 2nd January 2014.

Cockermouth Leisure Centre will be closed on 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st December 2013 and 1st January 2014. Reduced opening hours of 9am-5pm will be in place on 27th, 28th, 29th December and 4th and 5th January 2014. Slightly reduced opening hours of 8am-8pm will be in place on 23rd and 30th December and on 2nd and 3rd January 2014. Normal opening times resume on Monday 6th January 2014.

Keswick Leisure Pool will be closed on 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st December and 1st January 2014. Normal opening times resume on Monday 6th January 2014.

**UPDATED 23 December 2013 ** Clip n’ Climb at the Wave Centre, Maryport will be closed on 25th and 26th December, and on the 1st January 2014. Climbing sessions will run from 9.30am-6.30pm on 23rd, 29th, and 30th December 2013 and on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th January 2014. There will be a reduced climbing session of 9.30am-3.30pm on 31st December 2013 and December 24th.

Car parks:

In the run up to Christmas, parking in Allerdale Borough Council-owned car parks in the following towns will be free of charge on the dates below:

Cockermouth – 24th December

Keswick – 21st and 24th December

Wigton -14th, 21st, 23rd and 24th December

Workington – 14th, 21st, and 24th December
