Help the Queen’s birthday clean up in Allerdale

24 February 2016

Community groups, businesses and individuals are invited to get involved in a country-wide clean up – by royal invitation.

Clean for The Queen is a campaign to clear up Britain before Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June 2016.

The team from Keep Britain Tidy is aiming to get more than one million people involved during a special clean-up weekend on 4, 5 and 6 March 2016 with the aim of making it the UK’s biggest ever litter-pick.

The Street Scene team and the town centre managers at Allerdale Borough Council are offering assistance to anyone who wants to join the national initiative.

Councillor Michael Heaslip, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive Member with responsibility for locality services, said: “We can provide bin-bags, gloves, litter-pickers and arrange to pick up bags of rubbish for any groups or individuals looking to organise a clean-up event.

“We work hard to keep our streets clean throughout the year but more help is always welcome in our neighbourhoods. I hope loads of people will get involved and help spruce up Allerdale this Spring.”

More information can be found at where people can also register and search for clean-up events.

Anyone who would like to borrow cleaning equipment from Allerdale Borough Council can contact the Street Scene officers on or call 01900 702800.

Volunteers can also register their interest with the Council to get involved in the annual town centre cleans later in 2016. Dates will be confirmed closer to the time.
