Have your say on development sites

7 January 2015

Allerdale Borough Council is encouraging residents to give their opinions on sites suggested for development purposes within the district.

The ‘Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD)’ or Allerdale Local Plan (Part 2) will identify or ‘allocate’ sufficient areas of land within the district for specific types of development and land uses. These will include housing, employment, retail, leisure and open space.

The plan will focus on the period up to 2029 and includes the areas of Allerdale borough which lie outside the National Park. It supports the vision for the district set out in Part 1 of the Allerdale Local Plan in delivering sustainable development, economic growth and helping ensure Allerdale is a desirable place to live, work and visit.

An initial ‘Issues and Options’ consultation, which was undertaken in 2014, included sites put forward by landowners, developers and members of the public. Views were sought on how the Council should identify sites and allocate land for a variety of uses. A number of additional sites have been put forward in response to this initial consultation, and the Council is now publishing these extra sites for discussion and comment.

The consultation commences on Friday 9 January 2015 and continues until Friday 27 February 2015. Responses will help to identify the Council’s preferred sites for development, forming the basis for the Site Allocations DPD. These preferred sites will be included in a ‘Preferred Options’ consultation, which is anticipated to take place later in 2015.

More information, including response forms, maps and consultation documents, will be available from 9 January at www.allerdale.gov.uk/Siteallocations, as well as at libraries in Aspatria, Cockermouth, Maryport, Silloth, Wigton and Workington, and at Council offices across the borough.
