Council Tax relief for flood hit properties

23 December 2015

Residents whose properties have been damaged by floods are urged to contact Allerdale Borough Council if they don’t automatically receive a discount on their Council Tax.

A 100% Council Tax discount is available for residents whose homes have been hit by floods. The discount applies to those properties which were affected between Thursday 3 and Friday 11 December 2015.

Residents who have homes which have been left completely uninhabitable, and those where damage means that living in part of the property is not possible, will be entitled to the Council Tax relief. The scheme includes caravans and park homes.

The discount will apply for a maximum of 12 months, or until the residents move back in to their homes or the whole property is back in use.

For second homes and empty properties, the discount will apply for six months.

Those who have reported that their property has been damaged in the floods should receive the discount automatically, but anyone with queries can email revenues@allerdale.gov.uk or call 01900 702530.

For the full terms and conditions of the discount scheme, visit the flood relief pages at http://www.allerdale.gov.uk/
