Council urges return of electoral registration forms
Allerdale Borough Council is reminding
residents to return their electoral registration information.
The Council sent out the ‘Register of Electors’ forms in August and
residents need to return the forms for the new register to be
published in December 2011.
The Council is offering telephone, SMS text
and internet registration if people have no changes to make to
their details. This approach is not only more
environmentally-friendly but also saves the Council money, with
postage and processing costs greatly reduced. Those who need to
change the information on the form can do so by returning it by
post with a signature. Full instructions to help residents register
their information are provided with the registration forms.
If responses have still not been received by October, canvassers
will have to visit individual households to check information
currently held on the electoral register is correct.
Councillor Barbara Cannon, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive
member with responsibility for Democratic Services, said: “It is
vitally important for people to register, not only so that they
have the right to have their say and vote in elections but because
the electoral register is checked by finance companies if you want,
for example, a contract for a new mobile phone or to get a loan or
a mortgage.”
