Demands to be heard on health
West Cumbria’s community leaders have
requested that health bosses attend a public meeting in
Maryport.
Councillor Alan Smith, Leader of Allerdale
Borough Council, recently met with MPs Tony Cunningham and Jamie
Reed and agreed to invite Dr Neil Goodwin, Interim Chief Executive
of North Cumbria University Hospitals and Sue Page, Chief Executive
of NHS Cumbria, to a public meeting to be held on 13 January
2012.
Councillor Alan Smith said: “We expect Dr
Goodwin and Ms Page to attend to answer questions on the health
economy and the future of health care in West Cumbria. It is right
and proper that ordinary people have the chance to raise their
concerns about their local health services.
“Recent media reports have highlighted the
deficiencies in the NHS system in West Cumbria, that a cash crisis,
shortage of beds and low morale is putting patient welfare at West
Cumberland hospital at risk. We need answers about what is going on
and what action these health bosses are taking.”
The public meeting will take place at 7pm at
the Wave Centre on Friday 13 January 2012. The public are invited
to attend.
