Sign up to Direct Debit for a chance to win £5,000

8 June 2016

One lucky Allerdale resident could scoop £5,000 after Allerdale Borough Council signed-up to a national council tax campaign launched by Bacs Payment Schemes Limited (Bacs), the not-for-profit organisation behind Direct Debit in the UK.

And in addition, all those already signed up will be automatically entered into the prize draw, so nobody misses out.

The draw is being arranged by Bacs in partnership with the Council. To be in with a chance of winning the £5,000 prize, Allerdale residents must register to pay their council tax bill by Direct Debit before 5pm on 30 September 2016. All entries will go into a national draw organised by Bacs, with the winner announced in October.

Anyone wishing to sign up to Direct Debit can do so on the Council’s website at, or call on 01900 702 930. Residents can also sign up at one of the Council’s area offices.

The Council is also making it more convenient for residents to pay by Direct Debit by doubling the number of payment dates. Bills can now be paid on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd of the month.

Paul Wood, Head of Customer and Commissioning, OD & Transformation, said: “What better reason to sign up to Direct Debit today, than to be in with a chance of winning £5,000. This is the equivalent of nearly three year’s Council Tax. Paying by Direct Debit is a win-win for all. Residents get peace of mind that their bill will be paid and on a day convenient to them. And the Council spends less money collecting payments and chasing debts – money which can then be spent on better services to the public.”

Dawneth Perry, Bacs’ local authority specialist, commented: “We are pleased to support all of the organisations taking part in this year’s national campaign; the first time we’ve brought together local authorities from across the country.

“We’ve run a London-specific campaign since 2010 and the results over this period have shown just how effective these initiatives can be. In fact, over the last six years our council tax campaigns have delivered in the region of £2.5m in savings for those participating and we’re now hoping that we can drive cost efficiencies for local authorities across the country.”

Full terms and conditions can also be found on the Council’s website and at: .
