Error on postal vote ballot papers

22 April 2015

Voters in the Workington constituency are being alerted to a spelling error on the postal voting forms for the forthcoming general election.

The word ‘Labour’ has been spelled incorrectly next to the Parliamentary Candidate’s name. All other details on the form, including the placement of the political party logos, where appropriate, are correct.

The error only applies to the ballot papers issued for postal votes. The details on the ballot papers in polling stations on the day of the general election, Thursday 7 May, will be correct.

Andrew Seekings, Electoral Returning Officer, said: “We are proactively telling voters about this mistake to try to ensure there is no confusion about which candidate belongs to which party.

“This error is my responsibility. I want to make it clear that none of the political parties are involved in drawing up these forms and none of the election candidates saw the ballot papers prior to them being issued to postal voters.

“I apologise for this mistake and hope the prominent and correct placement of the appropriate political party logos on the ballot papers eliminates any confusion.”
