Allerdale Borough Council has committed more than £16,000 for events and festivals for this financial year.

Support for festivals and events are a target area in the Council Plan, which aims to give everyone the opportunity to access affordable arts, sports and leisure activities.

Upcoming event that will benefit from Allerdale’s Festival and Events Budget are:

Other events this year which have already benefited are Maryport’s Music and Mayhem (£5,000) which took place on 2 May; Touch a Truck (£1,000) in Cockermouth which took place on the 3 May; VE VJ Day 70th Celebration Picnic (£600) took place in Christ Church Cockermouth and this event took place on the 10 May and the Wigton Spring Fling (£1,000) which is a festival of arts and crafts which took place on Monday 25 May to Sunday 31 May.

Councillor Mark Fryer, Executive Member for Economic Growth, said: “Allerdale has a strong tradition of creating and hosting community events - from something relatively small, like Touch a Truck, compared to something on a large scale like Taste Cumbria which is recognised nationally for its quality. The economic and social benefits of these events are significant, which is why the Council is committed to supporting them – both through funding and through the expertise of the officers who work with the organisers.”
