Extended opening hours at Better, Workington Leisure Centre

From Saturday 7th January 2017, weekend opening hours at the new Workington Leisure Centre are to be extended.

For a trial period the centre will open on a Saturday and Sunday from 8.30am to 8pm providing customers with an extra three hours each evening.

Workington Leisure Centre is managed on behalf of Allerdale Borough Council under the Better brand, the customer facing brand of GLL, the UK's leading charitable leisure social enterprise.

Andy King, Regional Director for GLL said: “We’re really pleased to be in the position that after just three months of being in the new centre that there is demand for more hours. We carried out a user survey recently and the opening hours were very well received. We did however get some feedback on whether it would be possible to extend the weekend hours which we’re happy to trial in the New Year.”

During the extended hours customers will be able to enjoy additional swimming time. The two pools will be programmed to enable a variety of sessions for the whole community to enjoy.  The full centre will be available as normal including the gym which features the latest Technogym equipment. Bookings can now also be made for the main hall which caters for a range of sporting activities, parties and private hires.

Garry Schubert, General Manager at Workington Leisure Centre said: “The extra hours are a great opportunity for people to come along later in the day to enjoy what the centre has to offer. Birthday parties in particular have been very popular and the later opening will enable us to offer more slots. We’ll be offering a 20% discount on bookings made before the end of December for sports hall, astro pitch and studio hire during the additional 5pm to 8pm sessions. Bookings acan be taken now by our team at the centre.”

Cllr Michael Heaslip, Executive Member with responsibility for the Council’s Leisure Centres said: “We’re really pleased the new leisure centre is so popular with people and proves that we were right to make the investment in our leisure facilities. The centre is fabulous and it’s great that we are able to open it longer over the weekends so that more people can enjoy what is on offer – and what better way to start the new year.”
