Festival and Events Fund

2 October 2014

Allerdale Borough Council is committed to supporting the development of festivals and community based events in the borough. We have established a fund that seeks to support festivals and events through an application process where applicants can apply for either a grant or sponsorship depending on the nature of their event.

Events we have just funded:

  • Caldbeck Festival (2nd-5th October): Bringing the community together to celebrate talent in the area. There will be music, story telling, arts and crafts throughout the village and a ‘pop up bookstore’ on the Saturday. The pub is providing traditional Cumbrian Fayre and there is even a dog handling exhibition provided by a local dog trainer
  • CADAS Food Extravaganza (21st November): A fundraising event that raises the profile of CADAS whilst showcasing the vast and various food available in Allerdale. To include cookery demonstrations from Peter Sidwell, Carvetii Tea and Coffee and advice on products from local traders
  • Ewanrigg Local Trust, Mad Hatters Tea Party (04/04/15)
  • Cockermouth Georgian Fair (02/05/15): The Cockermouth Georgian Fair turns the clock back with a whole host of activities with an 18th century theme, with lots of people re-enacting the Georgian style
  • Keswick Victorian Fayre (07/12/14): A great day out for all the family in Keswick Town centre from 11.30am onwards. With lots of decorated charity stalls and a host of street entertainment with the Christmas tree and shops festooned with colourful lights, and equally colourful local characters providing entertainment, it is an occasion not to be missed.
  • Wigton Town Christmas Lights Switch On (29/11/2014): with market and town centre ski slope
  • Rotary Club of Workington, Technology Tournament (14/03/2015)
  • Keswick Christmas Lights Switch On (21/11/2014): with all day Christmas food and gift fair and entertainment
  • Kirkgate Arts, Puppet Animation (March 2015): The Festival is the UK's largest performing arts event for children. It offers children and their families opportunities to be transported to magical worlds of make-believe.
  • Cockermouth by Candlelight (08/12/2014): The event itself will start at 4pm when all participating shops in Cockermouth will light their Georgian-style lanterns (and the optional paper lanterns) outside their shops.  This will provide a unity to the town for this magical evening. At 5pm, the lantern parade will start from the Kirkgate Centre.  The children (accompanied by their families) will form a procession through Market Place, along Main Street, up Station Street, down Lowther Went, left along Main Street, finishing at Wordsworth House, where the lamp-lit National Trust property will serve spiced Georgian punch and volunteers will tell stories about local historical figures and ghosts. The procession will be led by Father Christmas and will be joined by various local choirs and brass bands playing festive Christmas carols.

The next funding panel will take place in May 2015 for all events that will be taking place before September. All funding has to be applied for by completing an application form which is available from our website or can be collected from Allerdale House. Further details from Alexandra Bell 01900 702714
