Businesses invited to experience the Google Juice Bar

17 January 2014

Businesses are invited to tap into the expertise of internet giant Google at a free event designed to help them grow their businesses online.

The Google Juice Bar initiative is coming to Cockermouth on Friday 7 February thanks to the efforts of Steve Bishop of Cockermouth & District Chamber of Trade, who owns the digital business Flame Concepts, Allerdale Borough Council’s town centre manager Joe Broomfield and Workington MP Tony Cunningham. This is the first time the Google Juice Bar has come to West Cumbria.

The aim of the events is to give business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs advice and tips on making the most of the Internet and give them new skills, regardless of their technical expertise - from creating their first website, through to improving an existing website and boosting online marketing. The topics under discussion will include search engine optimisation (SEO), Google Adwords, analytics, online marketing and digital strategy.

Dan Cobley, Managing Director of Google UK, said: “A recent Boston Consulting Group report found that small businesses actively using the Internet can grow eight times faster than those companies with no web presence. Our goal is to get businesses of all sizes to understand the importance of the Internet and how easy it is to get online - and contribute to the overall growth of their enterprise and the local economy. We hope that local businesses will take advantage of these free digital sessions.”

Councillor Mark Fryer, Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive Member with responsibility for Economic Growth, said: “The importance of online retailing, marketing and social media for small businesses is increasing all the time and I would encourage local businesses to register for this event as soon as possible so that they can hear what the experts from Google have to say.”

Tony Cunningham, MP for Workington said: “A successful online presence is vital for local businesses based in Allerdale and successful small businesses mean a strong local economy. I hope that as many businesses as possible take advantage of the expertise on offer from Google.”

Spaces are limited at the event, which takes place at The Saints Rooms, Church Went, Kirkgate, Cockermouth, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Friday 7 February. Sign up now at
