Join the Maryport clean up

17 July 2013

Plans are underway to clean up Maryport in a new community initiative – and the organisers want to hear from volunteers across the town.

Residents, businesses and community groups are being urged to join forces to spruce up the town.

Organised by Town Centre Manager Toni Magean from Allerdale Borough Council, the event will take place on Wednesday 24 July from 10.30am to 3pm.

Toni said: “The Council’s Streetscene team will be cleaning the big, hard-to-reach signs in the town centre and on the gateways into the town, and we will also co-ordinate the cleaning of smaller road signs in residential areas.

“We’ll also be looking at those little areas of the town centre which would benefit from a litter pick, and all suggestions are welcome as to where we should be targeting our efforts. We’ve got a few willing helpers lined up already but we would also welcome any further offers from volunteers who want to get involved.

“Through our combined efforts, the clean up should result in a big improvement to the look of Maryport. We already have a similar event planned for Aspatria at the end of August and, if the day goes well, this is something that we will look to do in other towns in Allerdale.”

The headquarters for the clean up will be Maryport Wave Centre. Cleaning materials and free refreshments will be provided for all volunteers from generous members of the Love Maryport group of businesses and organisations. To get involved email or call 01900 702568.
