New appointment to Allerdale Borough Council’s Executive

13 February 2014

Councillor Konrad Hansen has been appointed as the new Executive Member with responsibility for Organisational Development at Allerdale Borough Council.

He replaces Councillor Carl Holding, who announced his resignation from the Executive last week due to pressure of work commitments.

Councillor Hansen, 39, who is currently the Mayor of Workington, has been a borough councillor for three years and a Town Councillor of five years. He is a well-known figure in the borough thanks to his involvement with a number of community organisations, including Allerdale Disability Association, the Cumbrian Law Centre and the North West Local Authorities’ Employers’ Organisation, better known as North West Employers. He is currently studying for a MBA with the University of Cumbria, where his dissertation will focus on the subject of leadership – and Konrad says he hopes the theory and skills he is learning will benefit his Council portfolio.

Speaking after his appointment, Cllr Hansen said: “I’m very excited about this new challenge. I got into politics to give something back to the community and because I want to help improve things. I really hope this new role will help me do more of this.

“Carl will be a tough act to follow. I have always admired him and his achievements at the Council, and I’m disappointed I won’t be able to work alongside him.”

Councillor Alan Smith, Leader of Allerdale Borough Council, said: “I must thank Carl for his time, dedication and extensive input during his time as Executive member. He has been a valuable member of the team and we are sorry to see him stand down.

“I am very pleased that Konrad has agreed to join the Council’s Executive in Carl’s place. I think he has lots of skills and qualities to bring to the table - not least his youth, enthusiasm and political awareness. It is important that we progress our young councillors and I am looking forward to seeing what a difference Konrad can make to our communities.”

Cllr Hansen’s portfolio responsibilities will include procurement, payroll, policy and performance, as well as risk management, business continuity, communications and information management.
