Forum offers helpful advice and free smoke alarms to landlords

14 October 2015

Landlords to be given the opportunity to find out more about the issues which affect them – and receive a free smoke alarm.

The next Allerdale Landlords Forum will take place on Tuesday 20 October 2015 from 5.15pm to 6.30pm in the Council Chamber at Allerdale House in Workington.

The forum will include presentations from the National Landlords Association, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service; and the Department of Work and Pensions. Topics to be discussed include: Cumbria Landlord Accreditation Scheme, the new Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Regulations 2015, and an update on Universal Credit.

Allerdale Borough Council will also be distributing free smoke alarms to help private sector landlords meet the requirements of the new Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Regulations. Each landlord can collect up to five smoke alarms.

Council officers from the Private Sector Housing team will be available to answer any further relevant questions.

Carni McCarron-Holmes, Executive Member for Housing, Health and Wellbeing said: “The rental sector plays a significant role in meeting the housing needs of the area. This is an excellent opportunity for landlords to find out about the issues which affect them and I’d encourage all to come along.”
