Improvements made to the way customers contact the Council

6 July 2016

Allerdale Borough Council is improving the way that customers can contact it with the launch of a new telephone number and the introduction of new services.

The Council currently has an array of telephone numbers for different services. From Wednesday 13 July 2016 these will all be phased out and replaced with one number: 030 3 123 1702. This means that customers will only have to remember one number when they want to speak to a customer services advisor about any enquiry.

And this is not the only improvements being made. The Council is also introducing a ring-back service which means customers will no longer have to wait in a queue during busy times. Instead the customer can opt to have their place in the queue saved and for the Council to ring them back once the first advisor comes available.

In addition webchat is being rolled-out on the Council’s website allowing customers to message an advisor in real-time to make any general enquiries.

Phil Tibble, Executive Member with responsibility for Transformation said: “These changes are going to make huge improvements to the way the Council handles enquiries from its customers and I’m really excited to see it starting on July 13. This new system is extremely flexible and allows us to closely monitor the way people contact us to ensure we provide a really efficient and effective service – and one which meets what the customer demands. So from July 13, please use the new number when you want to contact us: 030 3 123 1702.”

The Council’s out of hours number will also change to 030 3 123 1702.

030 3 numbers cost no more than calls to geographic (01 and 02) numbers. Calls from landlines and mobiles will also be included in any ‘free minutes’, allowances or discount schemes (i.e. Friends and Family) customers may receive from their telephone provider including mobile calls.

These developments are all made possible due to changes in the Council’s telephony provider to BT One Phone. Over the next few months the system will also be rolled out to all staff meaning they can take advantage of the greater flexibility which it provides, especially when they are out of the office.
