Views sought on new draft planning document

3 February 2016

Views are being sought by Allerdale Borough Council on a draft document which provides guidance on when developers will be required to contribute to improve local infrastructure as part of their development.

The Allerdale Local Plan (Part 1) was adopted in July 2014. It identified a need for an extra 5,471 houses and 54 hectares of employment land across the district (excluding the National Park area) between 2011 and 2029.

In order to support this level of development, additional infrastructure, community infrastructure and services will be required. Policy S21 of the Local Plan (Part 1) details the Council’s commitment to ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is available to meet the needs of the development, whilst ensuring that the requirements of local areas and residents, and the quality of the environment, is not comprised. Therefore developers are required to enter into legally binding agreements, known as planning obligations, to ensure that this happens.

The draft Developer Contributions Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) expands upon the requirements of Policy S21 by providing detailed information about the type of obligations that the Council may seek to secure from developers, and the basis on which the level of obligation will be calculated.

The draft SPD, comments form and supporting documents can be found on our website at: http://www.allerdale.gov.uk/planning-and-buildings/planning/planning-policy/developer-contributions-spd.aspx

Hard copies of the documents are also available for inspection at Allerdale House, and the following public libraries and Customer Service Centres during their normal opening hours: Aspatria Library, Cockermouth Customer Service Centre, Cockermouth Library, Maryport Library, Maryport Customer Service Centre, Silloth Library, Wigton Customer Service Centre, Wigton Library and Workington Library.

The Consultation period will run until 4pm on Friday 4th March 2016.  Comments should be sent to localplan@allerdale.gov.uk or Francesca Robinson, Planning Policy Team, Allerdale Borough Council, Allerdale House, Workington, CA14 3YJ.
