Recycle This Christmas
Allerdale Borough Council is urging residents
to dispose of their Christmas trees after the New Year in the best
way possible in order to reduce the amount of waste.
Compost collections in the area have been
suspended until the end of January 2012, therefore ways in which
the public can dispose of their Christmas trees are to either take
their tree to a municipal site for recycling, or wait until the
compost service is resumed and leave their trees next to the bin
for recycling. However, if householders are unable to do either,
they can leave the tree next to the refuse bin and it will be
disposed of as waste, rather than be recycled.
There are other items that can be recycled
over the Christmas period such as cardboard which can be placed in
the paper recycling bin, including Christmas cards, wrapping paper
(not the shiny foil type) and cardboard packaging from presents.
Glass bottles/jars, food and drink cans can be also be recycled
along with plastic bottles. To find your nearest recycling
facilities visit www.allerdale.gov.uk/myproperty
