Recycling figures show improvement
The Allerdale area is top of the table when it
comes to recycling, according to recently published figures.
The percentage of household waste sent for
reuse, recycling or composting during 2010-11, according to figures
recently published by Cumbria County Council, was:
- Allerdale
47.3%
- Barrow
35.6%
- Carlisle
46.1%
- Copeland
42.9%
- Eden
33.3%
- South Lakes 44.1%
Councillor Michael Heaslip, Allerdale Borough
Council’s Executive member with responsibility for recycling, said:
“This is a 3% improvement on the 2009-10 figure of 44.3%. It is due
in part to an expansion of the purple bag recycling scheme in
Allerdale but is mostly thanks to the residents of Allerdale who
have helped us to achieve these figures by using the recycling
facilities we offer.”
“Hopefully, next year, there will be further
improvement following the expansion of the purple bag scheme to
more than 6,000 properties already in 2011-12.”
