Public asked to dispose of waste items safely

Wednesday, 9 December 2015

Allerdale Borough Council has asked that residents dispose of all waste in a safe manner.

The Council have been notified that medical waste, particularly used needles have not been disposed of in a careful manner and have been thrown into the flood waste for collection by our crews. Council teams assisting with essential recovery works have found that they have had to sort hazardous waste from general waste which is slowing down collections.

Hazardous waste always needs to be disposed of carefully. The Council appreciates that disposing of waste at this time has its difficulties. Therefore, residents who have used needles in their possession but do not have a specially designed sharps bin are asked to store them safely and call us on 01900 702800 and we’ll arrange their collection. Alternatively, local pharmacies or GP surgeries may be able to advise about sharps collections.
