Solar park planning application approved

18 November 2014

A planning application for a photovoltaic solar park at Pasture Farm near Aspatria has been given the go ahead.

Allerdale Borough Council’s Development Panel had voted in favour of the proposals at a meeting on Tuesday 4 November 2014, but a last-minute intervention by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government meant that the decision was delayed.

The Secretary of State had received a request to call in the application and to hold a public inquiry. That meant that the Development Panel decision was not final until the application was scrutinised by Government officials.

Allerdale Borough Council has today [Tuesday 18 November 2014] received a letter from the Secretary of State which allows its Development Panel’s original decision to stand.

The letter says: “The Secretary of State has carefully considered this case against the call-in policy. The policy makes it clear that the power to call in a case will only be used very selectively. The Government is committed to give more power to councils and communities to make their own decisions on planning issues, and believes planning decisions should be made at the local level wherever possible.

“The Secretary of State has decided, having had regard to this policy, not to call in this application. He is content that it should be determined by the local planning authority.”

The planning applicant, Livos Energy, has been informed of the decision.
