Join the Wigton clean up

30 October 2013

Wigton is the latest town in Allerdale to benefit from a town centre clean.

Allerdale Borough Council’s Town Centre Managers have been bringing together volunteers to assist the Council’s Streetscene team in holding clean-up days across the borough.

The next clean up takes place in Wigton from 10am on Tuesday 5 November. Organised by Town Centre Manager Joe Broomfield, six of the town’s councillors have already pledged their support on the day. Residents, businesses and members of community groups are all invited to get involved.

Joe said: “Volunteers will be helping the Council’s Streetscene team to blitz everything from street furniture and rubbish bins to signage. The big signs on the entrances to the town will be power-washed and we’ll be cleaning the smaller signs and street furniture by hand.

“We’ve got a few willing helpers lined up already but we would welcome any further offers from volunteers who want to get involved. We’ll be out and about for two or three hours so even if people can only spare a little time, it will be very welcome.”

The headquarters for the clean up will be the café at Wigton Market Hall. Cleaning materials and free refreshments will be provided for all volunteers who need to come suitably dressed. To get involved email joe.broomfield@allerdale.gov.uk or call 01900 702568.
