Building Workington's new temporary road bridge
Allerdale Borough Council has produced a
stop-frame video showing how Workington's temporary road bridge was
constructed in just 72 days – believed to be one of the fastest
temporary road bridge builds of its size ever in the UK.
The Council set up a webcam with a live feed
positioned towards the construction site so that the public could
see the progress being made to rebuild the road link between the
two sides of Workington which was lost when one road bridge was
destroyed and another badly damaged during the floods in November
2009.
Allerdale Borough Council - which owns the land
where the bridge and approach roads were built - worked with
Cumbria County Council and the contractors Morgan Est to help with
the rapid construction so that the bridge could be opened ahead of
schedule in April 2010.
