The Solway Coast AONB
The Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural
Beauty (AONB) stretches across 118 square kilometres from
Rockcliffe Marsh on the Scottish border to just north of
Maryport.
The landscape features a wide range of sight-seeing attractions,
from historic Roman sites and fascinating wildlife to colourful
floral displays and breathtaking views across the Solway Firth.
It was designated an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty in 1964 and is managed in partnership with Allerdale
Borough Council, Carlisle City Council, Cumbria County Council,
Natural England, the Solway Firth Partnership and the Environment
Agency.
