Annual Canvass 2012
Due to the Police and
Crime Commissioner Elections being held on Thursday 15
November 2012 the secretary of state has issued a direction
which has brought this year's canvass forward with the new
Register of Electors being published on Tuesday 16 October
2012.
Our forms will be going out around the start of July and
although the relevant date is 15 October you can return your form
as soon as you get it.
If all of the details on the form are correct you can confirm
the information using our freephone service, through our internet
response system, by SMS or by posting the form back to us in the
freepost envelope provided. Full details of these response services
will be provided here later in the year and within the forms.
If there are any changes to the information the form must be
updated, signed and returned to us.
You need to be included on the form if you
are:
- 18 and over
- British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizens
- 16/17 years old (so that you are eligible to vote as soon as
you turn 18)
- Living at an address in Allerdale on the 15 October.
You must return your form by law. Failure to return your form or
providing false information could result in a £1,000 fine.
You should not assume because you were registered last year
that you will be registered this year. Regulations that are in
force mean that if you do not return your form for two
consecutive years your name will be removed.
If you are not registered, you will not be able to vote
and you may also find that you are refused credit or loans
as credit reference agencies check the register of electors
when people apply for loans/ mobile phone contracts/ mortgages
etc.
If you have moved in the mean time you can still
register by filling out a rolling
registration form.
