Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places 2011
The Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places
(Parliamentary Elections) Regulations 2006 requires all local
authorities to carry out a review of its polling districts and
polling places on a four-yearly cycle. As the last review in
Allerdale was December 2007 we are required to complete the next
one before 31 December this year. We have started this process and
our consultation period will run from Friday 9 September to
Friday 21 October 2011*
*Due to a change in date of the November Executive meeting (from
2th to 30th) where the final comments of the review will be
considered, the consultation period has been extended by 2
weeks to the 21 October.
Download the Notice of Review from the Downloadable
Documents section below.
A review is carried out to make sure that all
electors have such reasonable facilities for voting as are
practicable in the circumstances. Although the review is
of polling districts and polling places it is accepted that polling
stations are inexorably linked to the review and comments are
invited re those stations currently used and/or any suggested
alternatives.
We must make sure that electors
have reasonable facilities for voting and that polling places are
as accessible as possible. When considering the designation of a
polling place we must also consider:
- The accessibility needs of disabled
voters,
- suitable parking arrangements,
- facilities for the staff on duty,
- and, where there is a choice of venues, the
cost.
Any elector in the constituency, or within a
parliamentary constituency which has any part in the authority,
namely Copeland and Penrith and The Border, are invited to make a
representation in relation to the size and boundaries of polling
districts and the location and suitability of polling places and
polling stations.
Elected Members and local political parties
have been consulted and the council also welcomes comments from any
person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type
of disability.
If you wish to contribute to this review representations should
be sent in writing to the Electoral Registration Officer to
the below address, or via email to elections@allerdale.gov.uk
by Friday 21 October 2011.
