Political structure and leaders
The Political Structure
We have a commitment to the people of Allerdale to be open and
accountable and we believe that local people should be able to see
how decisions are made.
We consulted with you on the political structure you wanted for
Allerdale and, as a result, we adopted a format that includes a
Leader and Cabinet. The old style committees have been replaced and
the majority of decisions are now made by one Committee (the
Executive Committee). Full details of
Executive Committee members and their areas of responsibility
are available.
A Scrutiny Management Board along with 2 Scrutiny
Panels and a Standards Committee, including independent
representatives, have been set up to act as the Council's Watchdog
and to ensure fairness in the decision making process.
We will continue to provide you with the best services possible
but we also want to encourage you to give your views and to become
more involved in the democratic process by attending and speaking
at meetings. We already encourage people to ask questions at
meetings either in person or in writing. We also encourage
objectors to speak at Development Panel on Planning applications
and this is only the start and we will extend the scheme where
possible.
