Developing the new Council Plan

The Council has been working over the past few months on developing a new Council Plan - Council Commitment to Local Communities 2012-15. This will replace the existing plan detailed below. This new plan will set out the new administration's priorities and will:

  • Be a three year plan focussed on delivering priorities
  • Set out outcome measures to monitor wider context surrounding priorities
  • Identifiy key projects the Council will focus on during 2012/13
  • Set out significant project deliverables

A draft version of the Council Plan is now out for consultation. You can download the document below. If you would like to give feedback or comments on the plan please email policy@allerdale.gov.uk no later than 7 February 2012.

Council Plan 2011-15

The existing Council Plan 2011-15 sets out the Council’s vision and priorities for the next four years. This will shape future service provision and decision making.

The plan has been developed from existing statistical information as well as research and information gathered through an extensive range of engagement and consultation activities with partners, elected members, staff, town & parish councils, local businesses, community groups and the public between April and July 2010. This information has ensured that our priorities and actions focus on the needs and opportunities of our communities. A copy of this research can be found at www.allerdale.gov.uk/consultation

Seven strategic objectives have been identified in assisting the council in achieving its vision of making Allerdale a great place to live, work and visit:

  • Maintain a high quality, clean, and green environment in the borough
  • Ensure the right mix and quality of housing to meet local needs
  • Ensure that communities stay safe and feel safe in their everyday lives
  • Support and encourage health and wellbeing across the borough for both residents and visitors
  • Attract and support new and existing businesses
  • Create an environment where business can flourish
  • Work with communities and partners to develop a flexible approach to delivering services to meet local needs

Within each of the objectives are key actions and projects which have been assessed in line with a service prioritisation exercise and identified as follows:

  • Priority - Resources are confirmed to deliver the action or project
  • Important - Resources are expected to be in place to deliver the action or project
  • Discretionary - The action or project is planned or an aspiration but council resources are not necessarily confirmed. The action or project may require external resources to be secured.

The Council Plan has since been reviewed and details of the new Council Plan are explained above.

Organisational Improvement Plan 2011-14

The context for improvement activities for the Council was previously set within a national performance framework and an Audit Commission inspection and assessment programme.

The removal of the national/externally set improvement and performance framework now provides a much greater opportunity for self determination, with local decisions around the Council’s own definition of improvement, what lies at the heart of improvement, how improvement is measured and how to develop the culture of improvement. The Organisational Improvement Plan will make explicit the areas on which the Council - staff and members - need to focus to be able to deliver the strategic objectives of the Council Plan 2011-2015.

Workforce Strategy 2011-14 Delivering through people

Alongside the Organisational Improvement Plan and the Council Plan, the Workforce Strategy sets out the work we will do to ensure we have the right people in the right place with the right skills to deliver great services and continue to improve for the benefit of the people of Allerdale.
