Give us your views in housing survey

20 June 2013

Residents are being reminded to submit their views on a survey which is investigating the need for affordable housing.

Allerdale Borough Council’s Housing Strategy and Research team is completing the inquiries across the district throughout May and June 2013. Workington, Maryport and Keswick and their surrounding parishes have been surveyed in recent months, so the new consultation will include the other main towns of Aspatria, Cockermouth, Silloth and Wigton, and their outlying villages.

The purpose of the survey is to assess the need for affordable housing in each parish over the next five years, and try to alleviate the current situation where high house prices and low levels of affordable housing mean that many local families cannot afford to live in their community.

Even if no-one in the household is likely to be in need of a new home in the next five years, households should still complete the first page of the survey and return it using the pre-paid envelope. Although the response rate has been positive in many parishes, a higher response rate will produce a more accurate picture of the need for affordable housing throughout Allerdale.

Results will be used by Allerdale Borough Council’s Planning and Housing departments to request affordable properties on developments and to support funding bids by private or social developers to buy or build affordable properties.

If anyone has not received a survey and would like to complete one, or needs help completing their survey, contact the Council’s Housing and Health team on 01900 702570 or email
