Planning a visit to Maryport? Download the new app for ideas

11 July 2014

Maryport has become the latest town in Cumbria to market itself to the growing number of mobile and tablet users by launching its very own app.

The app aims to give visitors a free guide to the historic town and to provide people living and working in the town. It features useful information such as an introduction to Maryport and its local history, including its medieval and Roman links; information on local businesses, and suggestions of places to eat, drink, stay and visit.

There are also recommendations for family days out and upcoming event listings, as well as practical information about public transport, local weather forecasts, and the locations of the town’s car parks, public toilets and cash machines.

The app was created by the Love Maryport Town Team and designed and produced by Cockermouth -based agency, Flame Concepts who also produced the Cockermouth town app in 2013. Steve Bishop owner of Flame Concepts said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Love Maryport team to create the app and I would encourage businesses to sign up as it is a very cost effective way of advertising their products and services.”

Toni Magean, Allerdale Borough Council’s Town Centre Manager for Maryport said: “Smartphone and tablet usage is growing year on year and it is estimated that around half of the UK population now owns and uses a smartphone with tablet usage not far behind. We’ve already been working with businesses in the town to ensure they have an online presence through the Love Maryport website, but now we’re taking it one step further with this new app.

“This is very much an ongoing community project so we would encourage as many people and businesses as possible to contribute ideas and additional suggestions of what they would like to see on the app, and we’re looking forward to developing it further over the coming months.”

The app is completely free to download and is available now from the App Store and Google Play by searching for Maryport.

Local businesses, clubs or those that want to add an event to the app should contact Toni Magean on 01900 702766.
