Wigton goes Totally Locally

2 October 2013

A new scheme is being launched to boost the profile of local, independently-owned businesses in Wigton.

The Wigton ‘Totally Locally Campaign’ – known as Wigton TLC - has been developed by the town’s Chamber of Trade, with support from Allerdale Borough Council.

The scheme, which has now been running for a couple of weeks, will be officially launched on the 1 October 2013 with 38 businesses already signed up.

Customers who make a purchase from participating businesses will be able to get a loyalty card stamped with their purchase. Once they have collected 10 stamps they can drop their completed card into Christies, Bron-ja’s, The Glasshouse or Stitch & Print to be entered into a monthly prize draw to win gift vouchers (1 x £25, 1 x £15 and 1 x £10) to spend in one of the participating businesses. There is no minimum spend required to take part and people can enter as many times as they like. Each month the winning names will be displayed on the new www.wigtontown.com website alongside a complete list of participating businesses. Participating businesses will have the Wigton TLC logo on display in their shops.

Jane Hollick, Chair of Wigton Chamber of Trade, said: “People may be surprised to learn that Wigton has so many independently-owned businesses and the TLC initiative will highlight the huge range of products and services they can offer. The Chamber of Trade is hoping that this scheme will encourage people to support their town’s traders by buying local, and keep their money in the local economy.”

Joe Broomfield, Town Centre Area Manager, “Wigton has some great independent businesses and the Totally Locally Campaign should ensure more people know about them. Similar loyalty schemes have worked well in other towns in the area and attracted quite a following among shoppers. I hope we can replicate that success in Wigton and really raise the profile of everything the town has to offer.”

The latest information about the scheme can be found on the ‘Wigtontlc’ Facebook page.

Any Wigton businesses that would like to take part in the scheme should contact Clare Stabler from Christie’s on 016973 43618.
